Do you lack sleep because you worked late? Did you wake up looking up a little worse for wear? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. We could all use a little pick me up once in a while.
Proper diet, adequate sleep and exercise all work wonders for your physical appearance, but here are a few tips to looking more refreshed and awake when things don’t go as smoothly:
1. Chilled cucumber slices for puffy eyes
Chilled cucumber slices have long been used, but not many people realize its function. If your problem is puffiness, remedies like cucumber have been used by beauty enthusiasts for decades now. Cucumbers contain flavonoids and powerful antioxidants. The cooling effect will also take care of the swelling.
2. Oil on high points of the face
If you skin is looking a little dull, you can apply a tiny bit of oil on the high points of your face. This will catch the light, making you look dewy and glowing. Don’t overdo it though, as putting oil all over the face will just make you look greasy.Use only a drop or two and gently dab on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and the Cupid’s bow (top of the lip). A little goes a long way. Grapeseed oil, extra virgin coconut oil or olive oil would work well for this purpose.
3. Soak in an Epsom Salt bath
Epsom salt is not actually salt but a mineral compound. It has been touted as a natural remedy for various ailments. Its health benefits include easing stress, relieving muscle pain, improving nerve function, relieving constipation and preventing the formation of blood clots. Epsom salt can also be used as a scrub to exfoliate dead skin cells. The magnesium in Epsom salt triggers the production of serotonin, which is a chemical in the brain that creates the feeling of calm. According to research, magnesium also increases stamina and energy, and encourages the production of ATP which is basically energy stored within the cells.
4. Black tea for bloodshot eyes
Looking a little bloodshot? Ditch the Visine. Did you know that it can make your eyes even more bloodshot if you build up a tolerance to it? Use a little black tea instead. Steep some tea leaves and apply a few drops to tired eyes once it cools. Make sure to use filtered water to steep the teas in. Also, use the best quality tea leaves you can find. Do not add any sweeteners or lemon juice to the tea.
5. Beet juice for rosy cheeks
If you’re feeling a little pale, beet juice can add the perfect hint of color to your cheeks without having to use make-up. The effects are temporary though, so it’s only good for a couple of hours. Simply extract the juice from 1 beet and dab onto the apples of your cheeks for a subtle glow from within.
